Teeth Whitening in NW Calgary

A smile is a powerful tool. It can say a lot about you. If you aren’t confident in your smile, it can have serious implications for your general sense of self-confidence. One of the most common issues that people worry about is the colour of their teeth. But a popular solution to this problem is teeth whitening.

You can get your teeth corrected to a brighter and better shade. But this process can be tricky if you don’t know what you’re looking for.

At Valley Ridge Dental, we want to help you make the right choices for your oral health. That’s why we’ve gathered information for you to read about the process.

Get in Touch If You’re Interested in Teeth Whitening!

In order to get the most out of your experience, you need to be safe about it. Before you whiten, one of the best things that you can do is talk to a dentist. Go in for an examination and discuss what you want. They can search for any underlying oral health problems that might stand in the way of successful treatment.

In addition, you should have your teeth thoroughly cleaned before you get them whitened. Our team of professionals at Valley Ridge Dental have years of industry training and experience. We can explain what we do in-depth and help you make an informed choice.

Professional Services v. Doing It At Home

With so many over the counter options out there, it is easy to find an option for yourself. However, the best thing you can do for your smile is getting the whitening done professionally.

Here at Valley Ridge Dental, we handle it all. We walk you through the process step by step so you won’t have to worry about a thing. For at-home options, you may have questions and doubts that instructions don’t cover. But with us, if you want to know anything about the procedure, we are there to provide you with all the information and assurance you need.

Who Can’t Whiten Their Teeth?

Getting your teeth lightened is a safe and trusted process. Millions of people get it done every year. However, that doesn’t mean it is the best option for everyone.

There are certain scenarios where this procedure should not take place. Most of them are put in place for your own health and safety.

  • Pregnancy
  • Nursing mothers
  • Children under below 16
  • Those with sensitive teeth or allergies
  • Those with gum disease, enamel problems, cavities, or exposed roots
  • Those with fillings, crowns, or other work

When you lighten your teeth, also keep in mind that the colour does not transfer to things like fillings, crowns, or even porcelain replacement teeth. So you may need to update these to reflect the overall shade shift.

Considerations If You Have Sensitive Teeth

Tooth sensitivity is a common issue that people struggle with when it comes to their dental health. If you have sensitive teeth, the whitening process may be more challenging for you. But it isn’t impossible.

Let us know about your concerns. We will do our best to maximize your comfort and minimize any negative effects you might feel after the process is complete.

Let Us Help You Make the New Colour Last Longer

After you get your teeth lightened, make sure that you take the precautions necessary to protect them. You will need to do all you can to preserve the colour.

In the first few hours after a session, it is wise to avoid substances that might interfere with the colour such as soft drinks, red wines, coffee, and other acidic beverages. In general, if you frequently drink these types of drinks, you may see your colour wear somewhat faster.

Luckily, getting your teeth whitened professionally means your new look should stand up well against food and drink compared to over the counter solutions. If you have any questions about aftercare, feel free to give us a call!
